Do I have to be flexible to practice yoga?
The beauty of yoga is that anyone (young or old, athletic or not, small or large) can practice. Yoga is a personal practice and we encourage each student to move at their own pace without pushing beyond their limits. We honor each student's abilities and work with alignment techniques to help you find an optimal place in every pose.
Do I have to register in advance before attending class?
There is no need to pre-register for any of our regularly scheduled classes. It is best to arrive approximately 5 minutes early to your first class to fill out a bit of paperwork, and meet the instructor.
What should I wear and bring to class?
Wear comfortable clothing that allows for easy movement. Leave your worries and open your mind. Refrain from wearing strong scents and applying location prior to class. Practicing on an empty-ish stomach is best. If you have a yoga mat, we encourage you to bring it; although a few mats will be available for general use.
Can I drink water during class?
Feel free to bring a water bottle to class. Remember, it is good to hydrate throughout the day.
Do you accept credit cards?
Yes, we accept credit cards as well as checks and cash.
Where are you located?
Classes are held at Toad Valley Golf Course, Pleasant Hill, Iowa. Located just South of SEP High School. Look for "pop-up" classes at additional locations in the Des Moines area.
What type of training do the instructors have?
The instructors at Blue Lotus Yoga & Wellness are highly trained; having completed thousands of hours of intense study and teacher training. Areas of training include anatomy, kinesiology, therapeautics and philosophy.
Are classes ever canceled due to weather?
Because of the climate that we live in and the unpredictability of the weather, on occasion classes do not meet. The most current information will be posted on the Blue Lotus Yoga FaceBook page - be sure to "like" the business. The website will also be updated as needed.
How soon before class does the instructor arrive to Toad Valley Golf Course?
The instructor arrives 10-15 minutes prior to a class beginning and leaves 5-10 minutes after class has concluded.
It is the responsibility of the student to inform Blue Lotus Yoga & Wellness Yoga Instructors of any health concerns, injuries or previous surgeries.
By being completely honest about limitations, we will be able to assist you more easily.
Not all exercise programs are suitable for everyone. Yoga and other exercise programs may result in injury. Consult your physician or other health care provider before beginning a yoga practice or other fitness program. To reduce the risk of injury, never force or strain yourself. If at any time you feel pain, discomfort or dizziness; back out of the pose carefully and seek the assistance of the instructor immediately. Pregnant women should avoid twisting and abdominal tightening poses.
